چکیده

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of topical fluoride prophylactic agents on the mechanical unloading properties of nickel-titanium (NiTi) and stainless steel (SS) closed coil springs. Spring were stored at 37 ̊C under static load in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and treated with either neutral sodium fluoride (NaF) or acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) five days per week for two minutes. Mechanical testing was done in a dH2O bath at 37 ̊C at 0-, 1-, 4-, 8-, and 12 weeks. Unloading forces for NiTi and SS springs were measured at 9-, 6-, and 3 mm and 2-, 1.5-, and 1 mm, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy was used to evaluate surface topography of selected springs

The effects of aging process and preactivation on mechanical properties of nickel-titanium closed coil springs

BACKGROUND The most favorable feature of nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) alloys in orthodontics is producing constant forces in a wide deformation range. Ni-Ti closed coils produce compressive strength and can be used for several purposes such as space closure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the aging process (temperature changes and prolonged strain) on Ni-Ti closed coils and to ...

Mechanical behavior and clinical application of nickel-titanium closed-coil springs under different stress levels and mechanical loading cycles.

INTRODUCTION The main advantage of superelastic nickel-titanium (NiTi) products is their unique characteristic of force plateaus, which allow for clinically precise control of the force. The aims of this study were to define the mechanical characteristics of several currently available closed-coil retraction springs and to compare these products. METHODS A universal test frame was used to acq...

Evaluation of the Effect of an Experimental Herbal versus Fluoridated Mouthwash on Frictional Resistance and Surface Roughness between Orthodontic Brackets and Two Types of Archwire: In Vitro Study

Introduction: The present study aimed to evaluate an experimental herbal mouthwash, as compared to sodium fluoride mouthwash on the frictional resistance and surface roughness between brackets and two rectangular archwire types. Methods: A total of 60 premolar׳s brackets engaged with 0.019×0.025 archwires made of stainless steel and nickel-titanium alloys were used in this study. The samples we...

Uprighting mesially inclined mandibular second molars with a modified Uprighter Jet.

281 P loss of the mandibular second premolars and first molars due to caries or periodontal disease can lead to mesioinclination of the second molars. Various orthodontic methods have been used to upright the lower molars for prosthetic rehabilitation,1-8 but these generally involve molar extrusion and reciprocal movement of the anchorage unit.9 Conventional flexible alloy or rectangular stainl...
